Is it productive to swim upstream? That’s what we do when we try to force things to happen. Isn’t it more satisfying to allow the current to carry us to where we should be? Of course, initiative and planning have their place— but only if we take the right path. When we’re on that path or “with the flow,” we experience a certain ease and confidence in tomorrow. We start going around obstacles rather than over them. The idea of disappointment melts away as we accept what comes along. It gets easier for us to appreciate and understand our connection to everything and everyone around us. We no longer live our lives separate and apart from everything and everyone else. We allow our lives to unfold realizing that we may never comprehend or control all of this. And, we come to enjoy and rely on a certain comfort in fulfilling our purpose.
